MENUMBOK: Beaufort District Police Chief Supt Champin Piuh advised the public not to park their vehicles indiscriminately on road shoulders along the route leading to the Menumbok Port and Ferry Terminal.
He said such actions can obstruct the smooth flow of traffic, hinder the movement of other road users and cause congestion, particularly on roads leading to the ferry terminal.
“Vehicle owners are advised to use the public parking areas or paid parking facilities available around Menumbok town,” he said.
He added that if vehicle owners continue to ignore the advice and park in a manner that obstructs traffic, police will take enforcement action under Section 170A, with offenders liable to a compound fine of RM300.
At the same time, he commented on an incident last week involving a four-wheel-drive vehicle parked on the shoulder of a bridge in Kuala Penyu, which was struck from behind by a motorcycle.
“They parked their vehicle on the bridge shoulder because they were fishing, and this led to the accident. Therefore, I advise the public not to park their vehicles on bridge shoulders for the safety of all road users,” he said.
He expressed hope that all parties would cooperate in ensuring smooth traffic flow, the comfort of road users and the continued operation of business activities in the area.
