Damaged Keningau bridge gotong-royong

KENINGAU: The Flood Relief Movement Organisation of Kampung Beribi Bayangan carried out a community clean-up to repair the Kampung Beribi bridge, which was damaged by flooding.

Its Chairman, Muhammad Ikmal Bin Raipin, said the programme was the association’s first initiative and implemented in collaboration with the Kampung Bayangan Youth Association led by Abdul Hazim Bin Husni.

He added that the effort was also supported by the Village Development and Security Committee of Kampung Bayangan headed by Mohamad Hafiefudin.

Activities included lifting and arranging stones as well as carrying out repairs on the bridge with the participation of local residents, he said.

He said funding was raised through contributions from Kampung Beribi residents and a financial donation from Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah Liawan Division Chief Datuk Azman Hj Ruslan, delivered by its Youth Chief Mohd Shahrastani Harimin.

A total of 11 committee members from the organisation, several Kampung Beribi residents and 10 members from the Kampung Bayangan Youth Association took part in the programme.

Held on Sunday, the programme ran from 8am to 6.30pm, with participants collecting and transporting stones from a nearby river while others prepared food and beverages.

The initiative highlighted the importance of teamwork and the involvement of youths in encouraging greater community participation in village-level programmes.
