Kota Kinabalu: A 13-year-old girl lodged a police report after she was allegedly assaulted by a group of female students in an incident believed to have occurred in the city on May 22, according to acting City police chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman.
He said the report was made by the victim at about 7.51am on May 23 following the circulation of a viral video on social media showing a female student being beaten outside a school.
Initial investigations found the victim was allegedly assaulted by five female students at about 8am, causing bruises to both shoulders and legs, bruising to the left ear, and a minor injury to the left knee.
Syed Lot said further investigations revealed the victim and suspects, who are students from several schools around here, were believed to know each other through a WhatsApp group.
He said the victim was allegedly brought to the location by two suspects before the group assaulted her over a misunderstanding and dissatisfaction towards the victim, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
