KENINGAU: The Keningau Tamu Ground is set to undergo upgrades soon to enhance the comfort of traders and boost its appeal to tourists.
Liawan Assemblyman Datuk Nik Mohd Nadzri Nik Zawawi said the upgrade is expected to create a more comfortable, cleaner, safer and organised guest atmosphere, thus providing a better experience for visitors.
He said it would be able to attract more tourists to get to know the unique culture and local products that are the identity of the community in Keningau.
“In an increasingly rapid development environment, tamu ground is not just a location for buying and selling, but has become the pulse of the meeting of various ethnic communities — a place where the culture, economy and lives of the people of the interior continue to breathe amidst the currents of modernity,” he said.
Nik Mohd Nadzri said this while conducting a site visit to the tamu ground with Sedcovest Holdings Sdn Bhd, with the aim of strengthening public facilities and boosting the local economy.
Also present were Sedco Deputy General Manager Suhaimi Untong and Sedcovest Holdings Sdn Bhd General Manager Yahya Sidek, as well as representatives from UPPM Liawan, UPPM Bingkor, UPPM Tulid, UPPM Sook and the Keningau District Council.
Meanwhile, Nik Mohd Nadzri also attended the 2026 Kampung Patikang Laut Kaamatan Festival celebration.
In his speech, Nik Mohd Nadzri said the Kaamatan celebration not only symbolises gratitude after the harvest season, but also serves as an important platform in strengthening community unity and preserving customs and cultural heritage from generation to generation.
“Hopefully, celebrations like this will continue to be a bridge for community unity while ensuring that the Kaamatan cultural heritage continues to flourish in the souls of future generations,” he said.
Various cultural events and community activities also enlivened the celebration, thus highlighting the spirit of belonging and harmony of the village community.
Behind the ringing of gongs and the smiles of the people present, the celebration proved that cultural heritage is not just to be remembered, but to be kept alive as the pulse of unity for the people in the interior.
Also present were Community Development Leader (PPM) Rayner James, Community Development Officer (CDO) Afiezal and staff from the Community Development Leader Unit (UPPM) Liawan.
