KUALA PENYU: Police arrested three local men in separate drug-related cases in the Beaufort district this week, all of whom tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
Beaufort District Police Chief Supt Champin Piuh said a 48-year-old man was detained by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division during an operation at the roadside in Kuala Penyu town on Wednesday.
“Urine screening found the suspect positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine. He is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said, adding that the suspect has been remanded at the Beaufort police lock-up.
In a separate case on Thursday, a 43-year-old man was arrested at the roadside in Menumbok town after testing positive for the same substances and is also being investigated under the same section.
Meanwhile, the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division (BPJKK) detained another man during a patrol near the Limbawang roundabout after checks revealed he was a wanted individual linked to a 2019 case in Kuala Penyu.
He was later handed over to the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division for further action and placed in custody.
In another operation, police raided a house in Kampung Melampai, Kuala Penyu, and arrested a 47-year-old man suspected of drug abuse. Urine tests confirmed methamphetamine and amphetamine use.
All suspects are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Supt Champin said the arrests reflect the police’s continued efforts to intensify anti-drug operations and maintain public safety.
