TAMBUNAN: Tambunan has its first dedicated music recital hall after House of Music Arts (HOMArts) officially opened the facility in Kampung Karanaan, reflecting a new chapter in the district’s arts education development.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Keningau Member of Parliament cum Tambunan Assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey G Kitingan.
HOMArts Director Nick Arddley Nicholas expressed gratitude to all who had supported the institution since its establishment, especially to Jeffrey for his continued backing and financial contribution towards the construction of the building.
Nicholas said that despite its modest beginnings, HOMArts has proven its worth by producing quality musicians, a number of whom have gone on to pursue music studies at prestigious institutions, including ASWARA, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, UiTM and institutions abroad, including in Chengdu, China.
“This recital hall is not just a building but a symbol of the dreams, hopes and journeys of Tambunan’s young generation in music education,” he said.
Nicholas said the hall will serve numerous purposes, functioning as a venue for music examinations, ensemble and orchestra rehearsals, as well as a community hub for workshops and masterclasses.

Meanwhile, Jeffrey congratulated the HOMArts management on establishing the district’s first recital hall and hopes that the facility will be fully utilised by the local community to learn both modern and traditional instruments, as well as vocal performance and arts education, regardless of age.
Jeffrey is proud to see HOMArts producing talents capable of representing Malaysia on the international stage and gave special praise to Nicholas, who is a product of local talent, for his dedication to music education in the district.
On the HOMS programme for students with disabilities, Jeffrey described it as a genuinely inclusive initiative, saying every individual has the potential to succeed when given the right space, training and guidance.
“The heartbeat of any music school lies in its teachers, those who are dedicated, passionate about nurturing students and sincere in wanting to see them succeed,” he said, expressing hopes for HOMArts to grow as an arts development centre that elevates Tambunan’s profile.
The programme, which began at 5pm, opened with a tour of the building before guests were treated to an angklung performance by HOMArts special needs students.
The ceremony culminated in the signing of the official opening plaque, followed by a special performance by the students.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of appreciation awards to guests of honour and contributors, followed by a group photo session and dinner.
