SANDAKAN: A Category C Fire and Rescue Station will be built in Gum-Gum under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) Rolling Plan 1 to strengthen emergency response coverage in the district.
Libaran MP Datuk Suhaimi Nasir said the project reflected the Madani Government's commitment to enhancing public safety and addressing the needs of residents, particularly in the Libaran parliamentary constituency.
He said this after launching the Fire Safety Awareness Campaign, Water Activities Safety Council (MKAA), One House One Fire Extinguisher (RAPI) campaign and the commissioning of the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Sandakan Zone Community Fire Brigade at Masjid Asmaulhusna in Kampung Tinusa 2 on Saturday.
He urged residents to keep at least one fire extinguisher at home and ensure electrical wiring was safe.
State JBPM Director Mohd Pisar Aziz said the Kampung Tinusa 2 Community Fire Brigade was established to provide an initial response before firefighters arrive, with the village selected because of its closely built wooden houses, narrow access roads and history of fire incidents.
He also urged the public to protect fire hydrants from vandalism and encouraged every household to own a fire extinguisher as part of emergency preparedness.
