Kota Kinabalu: Residents of Kampung Petagas are urged to remain vigilant, especially when carrying out activities, due to confirmed crocodile sightings along the Petagas River.
Kampung Petagas Baru Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Chairman Awlie Majid said although there have been no incidents of people being attacked by crocodiles so far, livestock in the area had reportedly been preyed upon by the reptiles.

Following the incidents, a Wildlife Department team captured a crocodile measuring about three metres long.
However, more than 20 crocodiles are still believed to be in the river, with several roaming freely.
“Therefore, I advise residents, especially fishermen, to be extra careful when boarding boats to go out to sea and to avoid swimming in the river,” he said.
Awlie also urged the public to stop children from swimming there due to the risk of crocodile attacks.
He said the Wildlife Department is working to capture the crocodiles and is actively setting up traps to catch them.
