RANAU: The public is warned not to fall for the increasingly common “3-corner vehicle sale and purchase scam,” which has caused substantial financial losses to victims.
“First, the scammers look for sellers by contacting vehicle owners through platforms such as Mudah.my or Facebook Marketplace, pretending to be interested buyers.
“The scammers will ask for copies of the vehicle grant, MyKad and photographs of the vehicle being sold, while simultaneously searching for other buyers by re-advertising the same car at a lower price to attract interest,” police said in a statement.
The scammers then convince buyers that they are either the owner or an authorised representative of the vehicle owner, while manipulating the payment arrangements for the sale.
