Kota Kinabalu: The Student Representative Council (SRC) of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) expressed appreciation for the university management’s efforts in addressing the ongoing water supply disruption on campus.
SRC Student Welfare Department head Mohamad Furkhan Abdullah said the site visit of Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor on Tuesday reflected strong commitment towards student welfare.
He said the visit provided an assurance that the university is taking the issue seriously and working towards appropriate solutions.
Furkhan also welcomed the provision of mineral water to students in residential colleges, describing it as helpful in meeting daily needs amid limited supply.
He said the initiative eased the burden on students while ensuring their welfare and health remain prioritised.
The SRC also supported the decision to conduct classes online during the disruption as a measure to reduce water usage without affecting academic activities.
He said the move helps minimise impact on students remaining on campus while lowering overall consumption.
Furkhan said the role of Dapur Siswa during the disruption ensures affected students continue to have access to sufficient food.
He added that a visit to the R13 tank operated by the State Water Department (JANS) showed water levels were very low, explaining the disruption affecting the campus and surrounding areas.
The SRC also noted that repairs have been carried out and water tanker assistance deployed, while authorities expect supply to stabilise in the near future.
