KUALA LUMPUR: The government has allocated RM450 million to expand the national population of meat ruminants, including cattle and goats, as part of efforts to strengthen food security by 2030, the
New Straits Times reported.
Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin said the initiative was known as “Pengganda 30 (Multiplier 30)”.
Chan said that it aimed to raise the country’s self-sufficiency ratio for ruminant meat to 50 per cent.
He said the programme will be implemented nationwide during the 13th Malaysia Plan period as a high-impact project to increase cattle and goat numbers within a relatively short timeframe.
“The programme is designed as an integrated intervention to generate large-scale impact by increasing the cattle and goat population,” he told the Dewan Rakyat.
Chan said the programme adopts a Public-Private Partnership model with a 90:10 matching grant, under which the government bears 90 per cent of the cost and participants contribute the remainder, which may be financed through Agrobank loans.
