BEIJING: A gold phoenix wedding crown worth about US$280,000 (around RM1.14 million) was badly damaged after a child accidentally knocked over its display case at an exhibition in Beijing, the South China Morning Post reported.
The crown’s owner, influencer Zhang Kaiyi, said the incident occurred on December 13, 2023, when a mother and her young son were taking photos.

CCTV footage showed the boy wiping the clear display case, which was not securely fixed, causing it to fall and send the 2kg crown crashing to the ground.
Zhang, who was seven months pregnant at the time, said the crown held deep personal value as it was designed and handmade by her husband as a wedding gift.
Despite the “serious” damage, she said the family would not seek compensation, stressing the incident was accidental.
