Grab Malaysia provides upskilling and upgrades through industry collaborations
With practical skills and helpful knowledge at hand, GrabAcademy participants can expand their earning potential to new levels as they advance further in the Grab ecosystem.
In a strategic move to future-proof its driver- and delivery-partners, Grab Malaysia, through in-house learning platform GrabAcademy, is reinforcing its long-term commitment to community empowerment through two key collaborations – with government agency GIATMARA and automotive marketplace CARSOME.

These partnerships form the backbone of Grab’s Driver Advancement Experience (DAX) initiatives, designed to enhance earning potential, promote sustainability, and equip partners with the assistance, skills and upgrades needed for evolving economic landscapes, including access to higher-value services, and transition to electric vehicles.

GIATMARA: upskilling and reskilling for career advancement

With GIATMARA on board, driver- and delivery-partners can upskill and reskill themselves through tailored Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes – ranging from vehicle maintenance and EV fundamentals to logistics operations, digital literacy, customer service, and financial management – to excel in an evolving mobility and delivery economy.

GIATMARA is a grassroots TVET institution under Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), providing practical, hands-on skills training to Malaysian youth, especially in rural areas – to develop them into skilled workers and entrepreneurs that supports our national economic development.

This programme combines flexible online learning through GrabAcademy with on-site training at GIATMARA centres, allowing driver- and delivery-partners to learn at their own pace while acquiring real-world skills.

CARSOME: vehicle upgrades alongside cash rebates and fuel vouchers

Meanwhile, eligible new and existing driver-partners can upgrade their vehicles through CARSOME, Southeast Asia’s leading automotive marketplace, either in the form of a trade-in or a new buy.

As part of the GrabBenefits initiative, Grab Malaysia is facilitating conversions to help partners unlock greater earning potential, allowing delivery-partners – whether on GrabFood Bike or GrabFood Car – to transition into Driver-Partners under GrabCar, thus broadening their service scope and income opportunities. GrabCar partners can enioy up to RM3,000 cash rebates for all car types ie. when you buy a car through this programme (regardless of the car segment), you get a RM1,500 rebate; when you trade in a car (regardless of the amount), you get a RM1,500 rebate too.

In addition to these cash rebates, you can even earn up to RM1,000 in fuel vouchers if you meet either of these conditions: when you register as a NEW Grab Driver-Partner, OR when you upgrade your service type to a higher tier (e.g. from GrabCar Standard to GrabCar Plus/ Premium/ Exec) – by completing the required trips per your service tier. For instance, you earn a RM500 fuel voucher for every 60 trips completed; or a RM1,000 fuel voucher for every 50 trips completed.

For existing GrabCar Driver-Partners, upgrading from GrabCar Standard to GrabCar Plus, among others, opens the door to premium ride requests and higher fares. These conversion pathways are designed to offer partners flexible, progressive career advancement within the Grab ecosystem, aligning their growth with evolving market demands and personal aspirations.

This is a nationwide campaigns running until 31 December 2025, which is applicable to both new and existing driver-partners.

Building a sustainable support system

These initiatives reflect Grab’s commitment to building a more resilient and future-ready partner ecosystem.

“Our collaboration with GIATMARA through GrabAcademy empowers our driver- and delivery partners with upskilling and reskilling courses so they can thrive within and beyond Grab, which supports the government’s ongoing efforts to uplift this segment,” remarked Rashid Shukor, Director of Country Operations and Mobility.

“The partnerships with GIATMARA and CARSOME are two important initiatives that support our driver- and delivery-partners in a more sustainable manner. By making vehicle upgrades and skills development more accessible, we empower them to enhance their earning potential and build long-term resilience with a clear pathway forward as we continue delivering value to the communities we serve,” he added.

Beyond upskilling and vehicle upgrades, Grab is creating a clearer career advancement path within its platform to help partners grow their livelihoods more sustainably.

Growing together – your journey to greater heights starts here

Once again, Grab Malaysia’s strategic collaborations with GIATMARA and CARSOME underscore its unwavering commitment to empowering driver- and delivery-partners not just as gig workers, but as skilled professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs.

“Whether you are an existing or new Grab driver- or delivery-partner, now is the time to take the next step to future-proof yourself with greater earnings, resilience, and long-term success,” said Rashid, offering words of encouragement.
