KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, chairperson of Kasih Malaysia, urged families to prioritise harmony and quality time as technology increasingly impacts relationships and child development.
“Sometimes we are together physically but not interacting. Husbands, wives, and children are on their phones instead of talking,” she said at the Inspirasi Keluarga Madani Seminar.
She highlighted pressures on modern families, particularly mothers juggling careers, household duties, and childcare, and stressed the family’s role in monitoring children’s digital use despite government policies.
Dr Wan Azizah also noted Malaysia’s demographic shift toward an ageing population by 2048 and called for collective planning to safeguard vulnerable groups.
Reflecting on her own upbringing, she said today’s children often take things for granted compared with past generations.
“Let us try to find solutions together and contribute our vision for our shared future,” she said, while thanking Sabah residents for their support in the recent state election.
The seminar aimed to equip participants with skills to strengthen family bonds and promote societal harmony.
