New traffic fine rates from January 2026
KOTA KINABALU: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) announced that starting 1 January 2026, unpaid traffic fines could result in court action and blacklisting for motor vehicle and driving license renewals.

Authorities are urging the public to settle outstanding fines by 30 December 2025 to take advantage of the current 70 pc discount.

Beginning next year, PDRM will enforce a new fine structure, with a 50 pc discount for payments made within 15 days of issuance, full fines applied after 30 days, and no special reductions thereafter.

“PDRM, together with the Road Transport Department (JPJ), will implement an amnesty period to allow traffic offenders to settle their arrears before stricter measures are taken,” said Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief ACP Kasim Muda.
