Kota Kinabalu: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) strengthened its relationship with media practitioners through the Media Engagement Strike Bond – Esscom X Media 2025 programme, featuring a friendly tenpin bowling tournament, here, on Sunday.
Esscom Commander Datuk Victor B. Sanjos said the initiative was aimed at fostering closer ties and enhancing cooperation between Esscom and media personnel in Sabah.
“One of the objectives of this programme is to build closer relationships and strengthen cooperation between Esscom and the media. I believe activities like this not only promote camaraderie but also allow us to get to know each other better.
“With strong cooperation and support from our media partners, Esscom will be able to better achieve its objectives in safeguarding the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone).
“I also hope this bond will continue because, as I often emphasise, media practitioners are the eyes, ears and voice of Esscom,” he told reporters after the event.
The programme, organised in collaboration with the Sabah Information Department (JAPEN), was attended by 75 media practitioners from various agencies along with ESSCOM personnel, as part of efforts to strengthen media-security cooperation in the state.
Commenting on Esscom’s performance this year, Victor said security and public safety across ESSZone remained stable, including during the recent General Election which proceeded peacefully.
“Throughout this year, Esscom successfully maintained security in ESSZone. This was evident during the General Election, which ran smoothly and peacefully up to the formation of the new government.
“Our hope is that the ESSZone community can continue their daily activities safely and comfortably, contributing to public order and economic growth in the area,” he said.
Present were Esscom Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Jamaluddin Mohd Ali, Esscom Deputy Commander Brig Jen Mohamad Ismail Kamarudin, and Sabah Deputy Information Director Azman Sipan.
