Kinabatangan emerge runners-up

SANDAKAN: The Kinabatangan Basketball Team came second in the 52nd Sabah Statewide 17 & Under Youth Basketball Championship 2023 held at the Tawau Basketball Stadium over the weekend.

The team combining players from Sandakan and Kinabatangan lost 52-85 to Kota Kinabalu in the final played on Sunday.

Despite failing to lift the trophy, team manager KT Tan, who was praised by Sabah Basketball Association president Phan Chee Yong for his effort to sponsor the players, said he was pleased with the overall performance of the team.

“This is a new combined team made up of young talented players from Sandakan and Kinabatangan.

Although we only emerged as runners-up, it was still a very encouraging achievement indeed”, he said.

Meanwhile, Tawau finished third and Labuan in fourth place in the tournament organised by Sabah Basketball Association.
