Kota Kinabalu: SKA Tambunan and SKA Main Dojo came top in the two in one karate championship organised by Sabah Karate Association (SKA) at the Manggatal community hall recently.

SKA Tambunan clinched the 45th Sabah State Senior Karate Championship overall title by taking home five golds and one bronze.

In second place was Keningau Sports Complex Karate Club with three golds, two silvers and two bronzes followed by SKA Penampang with three golds, one silver and one bronze.

Main Dojo on the other hand, emerged champions in 45th Sabah State Secondary School Karate Championship with their total haul of four golds, six silvers and seven bronzes while SKA Tambunan took the runners-up spot with three golds, three silvers and four bronzes and in third place was Keningau Sports Complex Karate Club with three golds and six bronzes.

SKA secretary general Julian Chin said a total of 400 athletes took part in the two-day competition.

“The number of participants could have been bigger as many have to sit for their SPM and STPM examinations.

“The main objective of the senior competition was to select athletes to represent the state in the National Senior Championship scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur next month,” he said.

The closing ceremony was officiated by SKA president Datuk Jake Nointin who also gave away the prizes.
