Retired judge donates RM65,000 from book sales to charitable bodies

Kuala Lumpur: Former Court of Appeal judge Tan Sri Vadaketh Chacko George, also known as VC George, has donated RM 65,000 of his book’s sales to various charitable efforts

In March 2021, the legal expert turned author released Some stories I have told and some that I haven’t. at the Royal Selangor Club, an anthology of 100 witty and wondrous stories from his childhood till his career as a lawyer and a high court judge.

The second edition of his book was launched on Saturday, December 3 by the Malaysian Bar president Karen Cheah at the Raja Aziz Addruse Auditorium in Wisma Badan Peguam Malaysia.

The donation of RM 65,000 for the first edition of his book was handed to the Bar Council Legal Aid Fund, the Mar Thoma USJ Congregation Fund for the Orang Asli, Rumah Hope and The Lighthouse Children’s Welfare Home.

George said that he wanted to keep his promise to donate the sale of the first 2,000 copies to give underprivileged children, especially from the Orang Asli community, much-needed aid.

The 92-year-old shared humorous anecdotes from the book with Bar Council members, past Malaysian Bar Presidents, family, and friends at the launch of the second edition of the book, which features the Royal Address by Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah during the first edition’s launch.

A speech by former President of the Malaysian Bar Christopher Leong during the presentation of the Malaysian Bar Lifetime Achievement Award 2017 to George is also included.

The 92-year-old served 25 years as a court lawyer before serving as a High Court judge from 1980 to 1994.
