TAWAU: Officers and personnel of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have been urged to always prioritise their health and personal safety while carrying out their duties to ensure public security and stability continue to be maintained.

Sabah Assistant Minister of Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing Datuk Rina Jainal said that neglecting health among the nation’s frontliners not only affects the individuals concerned but could also have an impact on the well-being of the wider community.

“We do not know what may happen each day. Therefore, we are concerned that PDRM personnel may become so committed to carrying out their routine responsibilities that they neglect their own health,” she told reporters here on Wednesday.

She was commenting on the tragic incident involving Tawau District Police Chief, ACP Jasmin Hussin, who passed away, believed to be due to heart-related complications after inhaling thick smoke during a fire at his residence in Taman Crystal in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

She said the passing of the late Jasmin should serve as a reminder of the importance of personal safety among the nation’s frontliners when dealing with critical situations in the field.

Reflecting on his service and contributions, the Kukusan State Assemblywoman described Jasmin as a highly dedicated and caring officer who consistently provided excellent cooperation in addressing social issues in Tawau and Kalabakan.

“He placed great emphasis on education and awareness at the grassroots level through collaborative programmes with schools to combat social problems and drug-related crimes. In fact, his hard work in the field was an inspiration to me,” she said.

She added that the late Jasmin was also known as a police officer who always made matters easier for the public, willingly giving his time regardless of people’s backgrounds, including matters related to her office.

Earlier, Rina visited the home of Jasmin’s parents in Kampung Sungai Gading Wakuba, Mile 17, Jalan Apas, to offer moral support and convey condolences to the late officer’s wife and family members on behalf of the ministry.
