SEMPORNA: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) foiled an attempt to misappropriate subsidised diesel by using fish tubs as disguise.

KPDN Semporna Chief Satunlucy Lamioh @ Lamidah said a team of enforcement personnel conducted an inspection under Ops Tiris 4.0 in Kampung Simunul, here.

He said during the operation, a suspicious Mitsubishi lorry was spotted and upon realising the presence of an enforcement team, a man escaped into a stilt house.

“An inspection of the lorry found 12 units of 200- litre plastic drums, an electric pump, a hose and a drum containing 200 litres of diesel,” he added.

Satunlucy said the modus operandi was using a lorry equipped with fish tubs as storage for drums to keep and transfer diesel illegally in the stilt housing area.

The subsidised items were worth RM430, while the seizures, including the vehicle and equipment, were worth an estimated RM25,530.

The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
