TAMBUNAN: Traditional weaving must be revived and passed on to the younger generation as a living heritage, said Mutiara Grs Vice President I and Mondopiton Sabah Patron, Datin Seri Cecilia E. Kitingan.
She was speaking at the closing of the week-long Traditional Weaving Course held at the Mini Hall of Kampung Kuala Monsok recently.

The programme was organised by Koperasi Mondopiton in collaboration with the Piolunganan Youth Association of Kampung Kuala Monsok.
Cecilia said the course was not only about learning new skills but also a vital effort to ensure the survival of traditional weaving so that it remains recognised and appreciated by future generations.
“Weaving is more than just a handicraft. It carries the stories, culture and identity of the community. It must be revived, learned diligently and passed on,” she said.
She urged participants to use their new knowledge to become custodians of cultural heritage and to elevate the art of weaving to greater heights.
She also expressed her appreciation to Anne Ikok for securing funding for the course, as well as instructors Johana and Murni for sharing their expertise.
The seven-day programme aimed to produce more traditional weaving trainers while empowering women economically in the district.
Organisers hope to extend the initiative to all seven sub-districts in Tambunan, making weaving a high-potential product in local economic development.
The event ended with the presentation of certificates to participants, souvenirs to the guest of honour, and a fellowship meal to strengthen ties among those present.
