He said the culture of mutual respect, which has long been a defining characteristic of Sabahans, must be maintained both in daily life and on social media platforms.

According to James, social media platforms such as Facebook, X and WhatsApp should be used responsibly, maturely and in accordance with the values of courtesy and respect practised in Sabah.

“The people of Sabah are known for their politeness and gentleness in speech. Therefore, I advise all social media users to be more responsible when expressing comments or opinions so as not to cross the line and jeopardise social harmony,” he said.

James, who is also Sugut Assemblyman, said actions by certain individuals in using social media to insult the State’s highest institutions, including the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, were regrettable and did not reflect Sabah’s culture.

He claimed that some individuals were using social media platforms to post offensive remarks, allegations and provocative content directed at State leaders.

“I personally viewed the posts, which were clearly unethical and maliciously intended to embarrass State leaders, particularly the TYT Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah. Such actions are not only immature, but can also disrupt harmony and create negative perceptions within society,” he said in a statement.

James was commenting on content allegedly uploaded by a Facebook account known as “Aqubahni Acp”, which he claimed contained material directed at the Prime Minister, the Madani Government and the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Musa Aman.

He urged the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and other relevant agencies to investigate and take appropriate action against any misuse of social media that could incite hostility or undermine public order.

James said firm action should be taken against any content involving insults, provocation or 3R-related issues that could affect harmony and social stability in Sabah.
