JOHOR BAHRU: Public buses in Johor have allegedly been targeted by pickpockets preying on commuters, including Singaporeans.

Sin Chew Daily reported on May 8 that the suspects had allegedly been active for years and mainly targeted Singaporeans, foreign workers and elderly locals.
A commuter identified only as Fang claimed the suspects operated in groups of three to five people and said she had nearly fallen victim, alleging they used backpacks to conceal their hands before stealing phones or wallets when passengers were distracted.
Another passenger surnamed Cai said she witnessed a foreign worker confronting an alleged pickpocket after alighting from a bus..
While the Public Transport Corporation of Johor (PAJ) chief operating officer Fadzil Abdul Hamid said no complaints had been received, but bus operators were asked to review CCTV footage.
Separate reports also stated that police in Melaka arrested five Chinese nationals in April over alleged involvement in a pickpocket syndicate targeting tourists around Jonker Walk.
