Kota Kinabalu: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has formalised a strategic partnership with the Malaysian Institute of Defence and Security (MiDAS) to strengthen research, collaboration and policy development in national defence and security, further positioning Sabah as an important front in Malaysia’s defence framework.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reflects growing recognition of Sabah’s strategic role, including its significance in supporting key defence assets such as the Royal Malaysian Navy’s submarine facilities.
UMS Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor said the Defence White Paper serves not merely as a policy document but as a strategic guide for ensuring Malaysia remains secure, sovereign and prosperous amid evolving global security challenges.
He said national security is now a shared responsibility involving government, private sector, academia and society.
