TAMPARULI: The determination of Kampung Dantai Kapa residents to ensure sustainable supply of clean water in their area was demonstrated through building a gravity-fed water supply system via self-help (gotong royong) recently.
This noble effort, carried out collectively, proves that the spirit of cooperation remains a key pillar within rural communities in Sabah.

Tuaran Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau also participated in the programme. He described the active involvement of the residents as an exceptional initiative that should serve as an example to others.
Despite facing physical challenges such as trekking through thick undergrowth and climbing steep slopes to reach the water source, the lively atmosphere and strong teamwork made the demanding task feel lighter.
Throughout the programme, villagers of all ages could be seen working together to transport pipes and water tanks to designated locations. In addition, some residents focused on clearing the catchment area to ensure the quality of the water to be channelled remains at its best.
This close cooperation not only aimed to speed up the construction process but also served as a platform to strengthen social bonds among the community.
Madius expressed his pride and admiration for the hard work demonstrated by the villagers for the common good.
“I felt the exhaustion from trekking through the hilly terrain disappear as soon as I witnessed the unwavering dedication of the residents working hand in hand,” he said.
He also congratulated the organising committee and all residents of Kampung Dantai Kapa for successfully driving the initiative, which will directly improve the quality of life of the local community through more stable access to clean water.
