TAWAU: Four transparent plastic packets containing crystalline substances suspected to be methamphetamine, weighing about 0.92 grammes, were discovered during a police inspection of a container at Taman Anson, on Wednesday.
Six suspects, including a woman, were arrested in the operation, which was carried out at a container storage area.
The suspects, comprising locals and foreigners aged between 26 and 42, were detained during a crime prevention patrol by police.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the operation was conducted by the Tawau Police Station Strike Team following information received from the public.
He said police inspected a suspicious container and found six individuals inside, including a woman.
He added that all suspects were taken to the police station for further action, and the case is being investigated under Section 12(3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
In Semporna, police arrested a man believed to be a foreigner and seized drugs suspected to be syabu weighing 40.73 grammes during an operation at Kampung Sungai Nasip, Wednesday.
District Police Chief Supt Tan Hiap Wah said the 25-year-old unemployed man was detained at about 5.30pm by police from the Mabul Komtak Post of the Kunak 22nd Battalion General Operations Force (GOF).
A preliminary inspection found nine translucent plastic packets containing suspected syabu inside a blue container.
“Further inspection revealed another 15 plastic packets containing suspected syabu weighing 38.86 grammes hidden inside a red plastic bag.
“All the seized drugs, weighing 40.73 grammes, are estimated to be worth RM3,000. The team also confiscated RM920 in cash,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Tan said police would continue to intensify operations to combat drug abuse and trafficking in the district.
He also urged members of the public to provide information on such activities so immediate action can be taken.
