TONGOD: A fire razed teacher quarters at SK Imbak in Tongod on Tuesday evening, destroying multiple structures but leaving no casualties.
The blaze, reported at 6.24pm, involved two blocks of non-permanent quarters comprising four units, each measuring 40x40 feet, all of which were completely destroyed.
A school canteen and a Proton Saga BLM were also burnt to the ground.
The site, located about 167km from the nearest fire station, saw flames largely subdued by members of the public using private water pumps and a nearby public water tank before firefighters arrived.
A team of eight personnel from the Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Department and the Tongod Volunteer Fire Brigade reached the scene at 7.54pm.
The operation was brought under control at 11.05pm and fully concluded by 11.18pm after safety checks confirmed no further danger.
