LAHAD DATU: A 53-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving a motorcycle and a lorry at the roundabout in KM6 along Jalan Lahad Datu-Sandakan on Tuesday.
It was learnt that the motorcyclist was heading towards Jalan Sandakan from Lahad Datu while the lorry was coming from the opposite direction when the accident occurred at about 9.10pm.
District Police Chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said initial investigations found that the accident happened when the lorry was making a U-turn at the roundabout. Due to the short distance, the motorcycle coming from Lahad Datu collided with the rear of the lorry.
“The impact of the crash caused the motorcyclist to die at the scene while the lorry driver escaped unhurt,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police also urged witnesses to contact Traffic Investigation Officer Insp Humaidi Harun at 089-881255 to assist in investigations. Dzulbaharin advised all road users to remain cautious at all times to avoid untoward incidents.
