Kota Kinabalu: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Vice President David Ong denounced a statement by preacher Ridhuan Tee that Chinese independent schools and the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) are “communist products”.

He said the UEC is an exam taken by students in Chinese independent high schools in Malaysia and it is recognized internationally and helps students enter universities and professional fields.

He added that it represents years of effort by the community to preserve language, culture, and quality education.

“The UEC was established by Dong Zong in 1975, a long-standing and lawful education body in this country.

“By making such accusations, is he (Ridhuan) implying that Dong Zong is a communist organization? Is he suggesting that Malaysia allows or supports communist systems within its own education framework?

“Any conflict or tension in our society does not come from education, but from the careless mindset of individuals who try to divide people,” he said in a statement here on Sunday.

Hence, David said he challenging Ridhuan Tee to show proof.

“Where is the evidence that Chinese independent schools or UEC promote communism? Which UEC graduates have become communists? Making such claims without proof is irresponsible and wrong.

“Such implications are not only absurd, but also an insult to institutions that have contributed positively to our nation for decades,” he said.

David said Chinese independent schools and the UEC are a vital part of the Chinese community and Malaysia’s diverse education system.

“Public figures, commenting especially on sensitive issues, must be held accountable. Their statements should be factual, responsible, and must not harm social harmony.

“I urge the authorities to take this matter seriously and act according to the law.

“We must defend the dignity of our education system and reject any narrative that divides people or misleads the public,” he said.
