KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (Acem) Sabah Branch has called for a shift toward long-term and preventive flood management following the flash floods that hit several districts on January 4.
While expressing sympathy to affected residents, Sabah Acem acknowledged the prompt response from the State Government and local authorities.
However, repeated flood incidents highlight the need for improvements in land use planning, drainage capacity, and river management.
Chairman Benny Song said flooding should be treated as a core planning and engineering issue.
