Kota Kinabalu: Warisan’s Likas Assemblyman Tham Yun Fook has expressed support for the Federal Education Ministry’s consideration to reintroduce the Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR), saying it aligns with his party’s election pledge for Sabah.
Tham described the UPSR as an important tool not only to measure students’ academic performance but also as a national benchmark for basic skills such as reading, writing, and numeracy.
“Centralised examinations like the UPSR help teachers, parents, and the Education Ministry identify learning gaps and design targeted interventions, especially for students in rural areas and low-income families,” he said.
He added that UPSR results would support students in transitioning smoothly to secondary school by enabling appropriate class placements and early identification of academic support needs.
