The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency helps ill Chinese national
Maritime personnel transferring the Chinese patient from a merchant ship for further treatment.
TAWAU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) of the Tawau Maritime Zone assisted a Chinese national from a merchant ship to seek further treatment for an appendicitis attack, last Saturday.Tawau Maritime Zone Director, Maritime Captain Shahrizan Raman said MMEA carried out an emergency evacuation (Medevec) from the merchant ship about 26 nautical miles southeast of Tawau waters.

“The victim, Wang Ping Yui, 45, from China, was transferred to a Malaysian Maritime patrol boat to be taken to CIQ Tawau Jetty, before being taken to receive further treatment at a medical centre in the district at around 1.40pm,” he said.

Shahrizan said a patrol boat was dispatched to the location to carry out the evacuation operation at 12.20pm after receiving information from the Maritime Rescue Sub Center (MRSC) Kota Kinabalu at 5.45am.
