KOTA KINABALU: Three people have been arrested for robbing and injuring an Indonesian teacher attached to an Indonesian school in Ranau on Dec. 21, here, while on his way to catch a flight to Tawau.
Two of the suspects, a couple aged 31 and 34, were picked up at a hotel in Sandakan on Dec. 25, while the other 30-year-old male was nabbed in Kg Warisan, Inanam, the following day.
City Police Chief, ACP Habibi Majinji, said the three were remanded to facilitate investigations. The victim checked out from a rented room in Bandaran Berjaya at 5am that day to go to the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) for a Tawau flight.
He was standing on the five-foot-way to order a Grab service when a Perodua Myvi stopped in front of him and one of the passengers offered to send him to KKIA.
The victim accepted when he saw a couple sitting in front with the female suspect at the steering wheel.
They took him to Signal Hill and during the ride was asked to surrender all his possessions. A scuffle ensued for about six minutes until he felt the back of his head being hit with something sharp.
He was then dragged out of the car at an unknown location and left there. The victim said although weak he tried to walk and finally reached a house where he sought help from the owner who was on the way to the market. The house owner alerted police and a patrol car took the victim to Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 (QEH 1) for treatment.
The victim received 18 stitches on the back of his head. He was robbed of Indonesian Rupiah 700,000 (RM207.56), RM1,000, an Asus laptop, an Indonesian passport, ATM card and two smartphones in the incident.
Habibi said during investigations, the three suspects admitted to the crime and the car used was rented.
Further investigations showed they were involved in other robberies here and in Penampang but only admitted to two. All had previous convictions and two of them were found positive for drugs.
