Kota Kinabalu: A four-day ban on goods vehicles will be enforced on March 19-20 and March 28-29 as part of the Sabah Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026 special operation.
The department said 3,778 summonses were issued during last year’s festive operation, with 28,281 vehicles inspected, 3,588 taken action against and 20 seized.
Launched at the Inanam Bus Terminal on Monday, this year’s operation runs until March 29 and involves 286 enforcement personnel statewide.
Sabah JPJ Director Datuk Mohd Harris Ali said the initiative aims to reduce road accidents and fatalities through stricter enforcement and increased visibility.
“The special operation is focused on ensuring smoother and safer travel for road users, while intensifying detection of offences and strengthening the perception of being caught,” he said.
He added that enforcement will target nine major offences, including speeding, running red lights, misuse of emergency lanes, mobile phone use while driving and overloading, alongside bus inspections, undercover operations and monitoring at accident-prone areas.
More than 30 road safety advocacy programmes will also be carried out under the “Drive Safely, Arrive Safely” campaign.
