CCTV, patrols needed on Pan Borneo route, says MP
Kuala Lumpur: Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali Musah (pic) has called for stronger enforcement along the Sabah Pan Borneo Highway to improve road safety and reduce accidents.

Debating the Road Transport (Amendment) Bill 2026 in Parliament on Tuesday, he proposed the installation of CCTV cameras, regular patrols and continuous road safety awareness programmes.

Matbali said traffic volume is expected to increase significantly once the highway is fully completed, raising concerns over speeding and traffic offences.

He also urged stricter inspections at border entry points, including Sindumin in Sipitang and Merapok in Lawas, particularly with increasing cross-border vehicle movement.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
Welcoming the Bill, Matbali said the amendments would help strengthen enforcement and improve road safety in Sabah and Sarawak.
