Kota Kinabalu: Claims surrounding the existence of “Kampung Asaon” and actions by individuals claiming to represent Suara Mahasiswa UMS in the issue involving government land in Matunggong have only worsened the situation as the area was never officially gazetted as a village, said Matunggong PBS deputy youth chief Alexyus Matius (

He said he supported the authorities’ enforcement action against huts allegedly built illegally in the area to ensure compliance with government land laws and regulations.
Alexyus said the area had long been known as government land reserved for future development in Matunggong and not a legally recognised settlement area.
He said residents of nearby villages such as Kampung Tuid, Kampung Hobut and Kampung Sumangkap understood the history and actual status of the land, which he said belonged to the government and not privately owned Native Customary Rights land as claimed by certain parties.
He urged all parties to stop spreading slander, provocation, and statements that could create tension in the local community, while respecting the legal process and the actions of the authorities to safeguard future development and stability in Matunggong.
