KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Ports Authority (SPA) is working with MINDET and Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd to address congestion at the Sepanggar Bay Container Port (SBCP), which is affecting trade efficiency and logistics costs.
SPA chairman Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin said interim measures include relocating Roll-on/Roll-off operations to Kota Kinabalu Port and expanding operating space at SBCP.

He said the congestion is driven by rising container volumes, uneven vessel arrivals and capacity constraints, and added that stakeholders are working together to stabilise operations.
Donald also noted that feeder operators have agreed to temporarily defer surcharges following discussions led by MINDET, helping to ease cost pressures on businesses and consumers.
