KUALA LUMPUR: The EPF’s i-Legasi facility allows members aged 55 and above to transfer part of their savings to spouses or children, supporting family financial planning.

Experts say the initiative could ease the burden on Malaysia’s growing “sandwich generation”, who juggle caring for parents and children amid rising costs.

Prof Datuk Dr Nik Maheran Nik Muhammad said the scheme promotes shared responsibility in retirement planning, while Dr Yeah Kim Leng noted it may encourage earlier planning and ease financial strain, provided contributors have sufficient savings.

However, he warned that ageing, stagnant wages and rising living costs could worsen financial pressures and increase the risk of old-age poverty.
