LOS ANGELES: Film producer Tiffany Chen has defended martial arts actor Jet Li against longstanding claims that he abandoned his former wife, ex-actress Huang Qiuyan, after their marriage ended.
Chen said in a recent video that Li left the marriage with no financial assets, claiming he gave up his house and car and “did not take a single cent” following the divorce in 1991.

Li and Huang met as wushu students at the Beijing Shichahai Sports School before marrying in 1987 and later had two daughters, Si Li and Taimi Li, now aged 38 and 37 respectively.
While filming the 1989 movie Dragon Fight, Li met actress Nina Li Chi and later admitted he had fallen in love with her, drawing public criticism after his first marriage ended.
Chen said the relationship timeline had often been misunderstood and claimed Li only pursued Nina after divorcing Huang.
Li later married Nina in 1999 and the couple now have two daughters, Jane, 26, and Jada, 23, while Chen also said he continued supporting and raising the children from his first marriage.
However, some netizens argued that Huang reportedly struggled financially after the Los Angeles property left to her was later repossessed, while others said the emotional sacrifices made during the marriage should not be overlooked.
