Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Tourism Board (STB) has established a special Tourism Emergency Response Unit, manned by four officers.

“In the event of emergencies or casualties, this team will be deployed to provide the necessary assistance,” said its Chief Executive Officer Julinus Jeffrey Jimit.

He said the first aid training organised by Sabah Enhanced Travel Innovation Association (Setia), with support from STB, is important in enhancing basic emergency response knowledge and safety awareness, especially within the tourism and hospitality industry.

“First aid is crucial because safety is essential in the tourism industry — and in any industry — as it has the potential to save lives,” he said during the presentation of certificates to 20 participants who completed the one-day Level One first aid course at Jesselton Medical Centre (JMC)

Cosmobeauté Malaysia and beautyexpo will expand into East Malaysia with the launch of the Cosmobeauté Malaysia Borneo Festival 2026 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) from May 25 to 26.
“It helps ensure the safety and well-being of both travellers and tourism personnel before professional medical assistance arrives,” said Setia Chairman Christina Wahida Kong.

She said being equipped with basic first aid skills and a proper first aid kit can make a significant difference during emergencies while handling guests, tours and outdoor activities.

The participants comprised tourism frontliners, sales personnel, company directors, operations staff, drivers and tour leaders.
