TAWAU: A woman sustained injuries after being strangled and threatened with a sharp object by a male foreign suspect at Kg Sungai Imam, here, last Saturday.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the incident occurred while the victim was waiting for her friend in the village.
He said the suspect, whom she knew, allegedly strangled the victim and placed a sharp object under her chin while issuing a threat for her to follow him.
The victim struggled to defend herself but was reportedly beaten and kicked by the suspect, resulting in injuries and pain to her face and body.
The 20-year-old suspect was arrested later by a team from Bombalai police station following a report lodged by the victim.
The case is being investigated under Sections 506 and 323 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and causing hurt.
Jasmin advised women to remain vigilant and take precautions for their personal safety wherever they are.
He further advised the public to avoid going out alone and to stay in crowded areas where possible to prevent untoward incidents.
