SANDAKAN: Vision Primary School Sandakan has achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the Best Poster Award at Science Castle Singapore 2026, held recently at the Woodlands Library in Singapore.
Science Castle, an Asia-wide platform established in Japan, is traditionally designed for secondary and high school students, making Vision Primary’s participation and victory an exceptional accomplishment.
Competing against older students from across Southeast Asia, the team impressed judges with their research project titled “Is Swiftlet Guano a Sustainable Alternative to NPK 15-15-15 in Mitigating Chemical Runoff in Crops?”
The project focused on environmentally sustainable farming solutions and demonstrated strong scientific understanding alongside real-world relevance.
The competition’s judge, Dr Harish Handral, praised the team as “eloquent, well-spoken and confident,” highlighting their ability to respond clearly to questions and exhibit a deep understanding of their research.
The team, guided by advisor Jennifer Lee, comprised four Primary 4 students: Mavis Hon Shi Ya, Look Tze Shen, Hannah Chen Yi Thong, and Asher Tsang Huan Le.
“This achievement reflects our commitment to nurturing critical thinking and a passion for inquiry among our students,” said the head teacher, Thien Lee Yee.
