Kota Kinabalu: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has reaffirmed that English proficiency remains a crucial skill for the younger generation to stay competitive globally while maintaining their local identity.
UMS Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Hj Mansur said programmes such as English Week play an important role in developing confident and articulate graduates.
“English is no longer just an academic subject, it is a gateway to knowledge, innovation and global opportunities,” he said in a speech delivered by UMS Chief Librarian Zawawi Datuk Hj Tiyunin.
“At the same time, we want our students to use this skill to contribute meaningfully to Sabah and the nation,” he added.
