Kota Kinabalu: A 71-year-old self-employed man charged with murdering his 44-year-old former fiancée was ordered by the Magistrate’s Court here to undergo psychiatric observation at Hospital Mesra.
Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus made the order on Piluta Samad following an application by defence counsel Datuk Ram Singh for a 30-day observation period.
The court fixed May 15 for further mention of the case.
Ram told the court the assessment was necessary based on his interview and observations of the accused’s words and behaviour, adding that the accused is a heart patient on medication.
The prosecution objected to the application, while the case is pending DNA, forensic, pathology and chemist reports, and relates to an allegation that Piluta murdered Hamidah Husin @ Lisa on Feb 11 between 6pm and 7pm at a house in Kampung Sri Kenangan, Jalan Sepanggar, an offence under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
