BEIJING: China announced 10 new incentive measures for Taiwan, including easing tourism restrictions, allowing selected television content, and facilitating food exports, following a visit by Taiwanese opposition party leader Cheng Li-wun of the Kuomintang (KMT).
The measures, reported by Xinhua, also propose establishing a regular communication channel between the KMT and China’s Communist Party, resuming full cross-strait flights, and allowing residents from Shanghai and Fujian to visit Taiwan.
China also said it would relax inspection standards for food and fishery imports, but only under the political condition of opposing Taiwan independence.
Taiwanese TV dramas, documentaries, and animation may be broadcast if they meet requirements for “correct orientation, healthy content, and high production quality.”
Taiwan’s government has not yet responded.
China continues to refuse dialogue with Taiwan President Lai Ching-te, whom it labels a “separatist,” a claim he rejects.
Tensions remain over tourism and trade restrictions between the two sides since the COVID-19 pandemic.
