Tenom: Residents are calling on authorities and contractors to implement a more durable, long-term solution following a road collapse along Jalan Pamaluyan, near Akar Hidup.
Many suggested that the culvert be replaced with a small bridge given that the crossing spans a fast-flowing stream that surges dangerously during heavy rainfall.

The suggestions came after the Tenom-Kemabong route was left completely impassable following a collapse, believed to have happened early Sunday, caused by a failed culvert unable to cope with heavy water flow that eroded the soil beneath the road surface before giving way.
Local resident Joseph Tadin Su expressed frustration, pointing out that culvert failures at this location is a recurring problem.
“This is not the first time damage has occurred here,” he said, echoing sentiments shared by other community members who say the issue has gone unresolved for too long.
The road structure has since broken away completely and fallen into the river below.

Photographs shared online by Masrani Tumas show the affected stretch cordoned off with yellow warning lines, while images of turbulent, murky river water below have gone viral on social media.
Residents have also raised concerns over the danger posed to night-time travellers, citing the absence of adequate street lighting along the stretch.
Authorities are expected to visit the site to assess the extent of the damage before emergency repair works can begin.
In the meantime, motorists are advised to use alternative routes where available and to monitor the latest traffic updates closely before travelling through the area.
