HANOI: A 60-year-old Vietnamese woman has successfully given birth to a healthy baby following a high-risk cesarean section at the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology, according to Tuoi Tre News.
The hospital announced that the woman, who conceived through in vitro fertilisation (IVF), was admitted at 38 weeks and two days of pregnancy with several underlying health conditions.
Doctors said the pregnancy was considered extremely high-risk due to chronic hypertension, gestational diabetes requiring insulin, and a history of gynecological surgeries, including treatment for ectopic pregnancy and uterine adhesions.
Medical experts noted that pregnancy at the age of 60 places significant strain on the body, with potential complications such as cardiovascular events, stroke, heavy bleeding, infection, and slow recovery.
Despite the risks, the operation was successful, and a healthy baby weighing 2.8kg was delivered.
The newborn cried loudly at birth, bringing relief to the medical team, in what was described as a meaningful outcome for both the mother and doctors.
