DBKK to fix Manggatal road, urges repairs near Kolombong school
Members of the RPG check on the condition of Lorong Biz Hup.
CITY HALL is arranging to improve the road to a Manggatal commercial property and has called on the government concessionaire to repair another leading to a Kolombong primary school.

This follows feedback from a proprietor at Sierra Biz Hub and a parent, whose child attends SJK (C) Che Hwa, about the lack of maintenance carried out on these stretches.

Both roads were in a bad shape, they said, with cracks splitting the asphalt in some places and potholes having formed in others.

The drivers vented their frustration over the added expenditure they had incurred from constantly having to bring their vehicles to a workshop.

They said uneven road surface had exacted a pricey toll on the alignment of these automobiles.

Potholes and cracks were spotted on the road next to the turn off to SJK Che Hwa.The duo separately provided Hotline with the pertinent details, regarding their grievances, which were forwarded to the agency.

A spokeswoman for City Hall’s Traffic and Transport Department (TTD) said a check was made of Lorong Biz Hup, shortly after it learned what was transpiring in this part of Manggatal.

“Our RPG [Road Patching Gang] confirmed the unit-owner’s report about the road woes,” she said.

“The RPG members assessed the extent of the damage to the stretch.

“We are in the midst of ironing out the details of the potential remedial action to be taken here.”

She said, the agency would also try to deal with any ponding problem which might be causing the potholes to form there.

“Pools of rainwater may be collecting on the road after a downpour.  In some cases, the runoff could takes days to dry up.

“During this time, sections of the asphalt get eaten away by these fluids, leaving ‘holes’ in the stretch.”

In light of this, she said, the agency was weighing up the possibility of having a “cross culvert” put in place beneath the road to mitigate the ponding problem.

“Only then can we proceed with having the stretch resurfaced from end to end.”

She said the Department would proceed with the work once it had finalised the particulars and secured the necessary funding to do so.

The TTD has been upgrading Jalan Plaza GM, which is not far from the Sierra Biz Hub, since the beginning of the year.

Jalan Plaza GM extends between the Grand Merdeka Mall and Taman Rimba.

The spokeswoman said City Hall had initially thought to have the improvement to Lorong Biz Hup carried out as part of the on-going effort to refurbish Jalan Plaza GM.

“We ultimately found that it was not feasible to do this,” she said.

She said Jalan Plaza GM was in a worse condition as compared to Lorong Biz Hup.

She described the former as being in a “very critical” state with potholes which were “quite big”.

“We initiated a programme to rehabilitate Jalan Plaza GM in January. This improvement is being carried out in stages.”

In the case of the road near the junction to SJK Che Hwa, the spokeswoman said the government concessionaire had been informed about the damage to the road.

“Our RPG went to this part of Kolombong, after we had verified that the affected stretch was listed in our road-register,” she said.

“They noted the presence of potholes on this road which was on a slightly lower level than the one outside the main gate to the school.”

She said these technicians also observed cracks running along parts of the joint between the two roads.

The company was verbally apprised of these observations, shortly after this check, according to her.

“We urged the management to attend to the road as soon as possible.”
