SANDAKAN: JKR Sabah public works department has been instructed to maintain all urgently needed roads in Sandakan which include Mile 27, where a fatality occurred when a Kinabatangan Council driver tried to avoid potholes.

Lintasan Resources is the concessionaire doing the maintenance.
Chong hoped JKR would act fast to prevent problems to road users.
Accidents have been in frequent along the Sandakan checkpoint road.
He lamented that there was also no street lighting along the road and motorists had difficulty during night.

As for Mile 34 onwards, Chong said it is under Pan Borneo contractor maintenance.
A large water catchment on top of the hill of Mile 34 caused water to overflow which led to heavy flooding on the road.

He said according to Vitus, the contractor is building an alternative road so they can maintain the damaged road and shift the Telekom poles.
Chong said temporary patching would not help to resolve the present problem and the awards need to be redone.
He also said from Mile 9 to Mile 16 the gravel roads are in bad condition.
